The
initial efforts to develop national health accounts were made
by various independent researchers and research institutions,
including KDI (Korea Development Institute) during the early 1990s.
These works were then followed by a more formal publication of
KNHA by KIHM (Korea Institute of Health Service Management) in
1998. After joining OECD, upon the request of OECD, KIHASA (Korea
Institute of Health and Social Affairs) produced formal NHA estimates,
covering the periods of 1985-2002. These sets of estimates are
based on the OECD System of Health Accounts.
